The training of 30 persons in the maiden American Society for Non-Destructive Testing, (ASNT) Level III Training and Certification sponsored by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, (NCDMB) has been concluded in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The training which started on 5th October 2020 covered extensive theoretical concepts of NDT methods, detailed practical sessions, and several virtual reviews with mock examinations. The trainings were conducted by Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited and Inspection & Tests Nigeria Limited (ITNL).
The Executive Secretary of NCDMB who was represented at the closing ceremony by the Deputy Manager, Capacity Building Division of the Board, Mr. Timbiri Augustine hinted that the training was intended to fill and provide the gaps that were identified in the oil and gas sector and beyond. He added that the Board’s Human Capital Development programme on building capacity and skills acquisition programmes were in line with the Nigerian Content 10-year strategic road map which targets to increase Nigerian Content levels to 70 percent, create 300,000 jobs and reduce capital flight.
He congratulated the trainees for successfully completing the training programme and acquiring the highest-level of certification of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) required in the oil and gas Industry and its linkage sectors and commended Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited and Inspection & Tests Nigeria Limited for delivering a world class training.
Speaking in his welcome address, the President of the Association of Non-Destructive Testing Practitioners (ANTEP), HRH Chief (Sir) Rowland Nze congratulated the trainees and commended the Board’s capacity building initiative which has changed the narrative of quality control processes in the oil and gas industry.
The ANTEP President further asserted that the Board through its partnership with the Association has empowered the practice of NDT in the Nigerian oil and gas space, noting that some companies now have investments in both advanced equipment and human resources. He added that local practitioners had invested with the confidence that first consideration will be given the Association for all NDT jobs in Nigeria.
In their comments, the chief executive of Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited, Engr. Ndubuisi Chijioke and his counterpart, Mazi Sam Azoka Onyechi of Inspection & Tests Nigeria Limited both appreciated the Board’s for filling the skill gap in the NDT industry. They both urged the Board to continue in its quest to build local capacities in the oil and gas industry and congratulated all participants for their studious efforts during the programme.
While congratulating the trainees, the chief executive, Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited, Engr. Ndubuisi Chijioke reiterated that the organization was willing to offer job placements to the successful candidates on the training programme.
