As part of its capacity development initiative and stakeholders’ engagement, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) began her second series of a One-Day Youth Sensitization and Enlightenment Workshop recently in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. The programme which was facilitated by the Zonal Coordination and Board’s Projects Division had participants drawn from the Delta Central Senatorial District to the enlightenment workshop.
Delivering a keynote address, the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Daziba Patrick Obah represented by the GM, Zonal Coordination & Board’s Projects, Dr. Ginah O. Ginah gave an insight to the main thrust of the workshop which is to enable the youths in host communities and Nigerians understand how to engage with the oil and gas industry in their domains and elsewhere in the country in order to actively get involved in the operations through the provisions of the Local Content Act.
Mr. Obah emphasized that the Board is about domiciliation of work and development of local capacity with associated benefits, not indigenization. To achieve this, according to him, the Board had chosen seasoned resource persons to take the relevant topics at the workshop so that its objectives would be achieved on how participants can engage in oil and gas activities.
The topics which were ‘Mandate of the Board’; ‘Relevant Skills in Oil and Gas Industry and How to acquire them’; and ‘How Host Communities and Youths can benefit from the NOGICD (2010) Act’ was specifically delivered to underscore the aim of the workshop.
In a vote of thanks, the Zonal Coordinator, Delta/Edo Zone, Mr. Temi Jemide charged the participants to take a step ahead by knowing what is required of them if they want to key into the oil and gas industry with specific skills and registration procedures which are basics with no waivers. He urged them to have these key requirements in order to be eligible in the Industry.
He, however, affirmed confidence in the commitment of the participants to put to good use the knowledge acquired and commended them for their attendance and good conduct.
