The second series of the NCDMB Youth Sensitization and Enlightenment Workshop facilitated by the Zonal Coordination and Board’s Projects Division moved to Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The event which witnessed an impressive turn out had participants drawn from the Ondo South Senatorial District to the programme.
In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Daziba Patrick Obah represented by the GM, Zonal Coordination and Board’s Projects, Dr. Ginah O. Ginah charged participants to optimize the knowledge gained from the various presentations as the workshop was designed to showcase the existence, objectives and functions of the Board and how these information will enable young Nigerians actively get involved in the oil and gas industry through human capacity development with goals and visions of empowering them through Local Content Act.
The Acting Executive Secretary further stressed that the Board has consistently emphasized that Nigerian Content policy is about domiciliation of work and development of local capacity with associated benefits, not indigenization. Hence, the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development Framework has thousands of young Nigerians trained and attached to various projects in the oil and gas sector to gain requisite industry experience and ultimately permanent employment.
Mr. Obah commended participants from Ondo South Senatorial District for buying into the vision of the sensitization programme while praying they use it to create employment opportunities and utilize local human and material resources in the operation of the industry.
Addressing participants after the Q&A session, the GM, Zonal Coordination and Board’s Projects, Dr. Ginah O. Ginah advised that host communities should adequately prepare themselves for the oil and gas industry by acquiring relevant skills, registering business entities and demand more information from the Board’s Zonal Office in order to embark on comprehensive capacity building.
Dr. Ginah, however, maintained that the enlightenment workshop would be replicated in the remaining senatorial districts of Ondo Central and Ondo North.
The Zonal Coordinator, Ondo State, Mr. Ajimijaye Silas Omomehin in a vote of thanks expressed satisfaction at the turn out of participants, representatives of youth groups and some dignitaries from the host communities. The Zonal Coordinator urged them to take advantage of the opportunities highlighted and specific training required to boost employability of youths in the oil and gas industry.
