The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has donated ventilators to some hospitals in Bayelsa State in a bid to support effective treatment and recovery of COVID-19 patients
The items donated by the Board include units of Synovent Ventilator E3 (40 – 200ml) complete with accessories, cart, tube assembly and oxygen masks.
The beneficiary hospitals were the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Bayelsa State, Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital, Opolo and Tobis Clinic & Consultant, Akenfa in Bayelsa state.
Speaking while handing over the items, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote explained that the donation is in fulfilment of the Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement Pillar in the Board’s 10-Year Strategic Roadmap. He said the Board decided to support the Federal and State Ministries of Health and other stakeholders in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
He reiterated that the two most important needs of man were food and health, adding that the Board places priority on the health and welfare of its staff. He added: “If our staff are not healthy, they will not be productive. Hence, we synergize with the health sector to make sure we give them appropriate health care as prescribed by the law.”
He expressed delight that none of the staff of the Board has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to strict adherence of the precautions prescribed by the Presidential Task Force and the Public Service Rule on Essential Duties.
He mentioned that the Board was one of the first agencies to support the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic by supporting the Bayelsa State Government in providing food items, medical equipment, and ambulances to combat the spread of the virus.
Receiving the units of the items on behalf of the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Dr. Dennis O. Allagoa, the Head, Clinical Services, Dr. James Omietimi thanked the Board for discharging its corporate social responsibility creditably and supporting the state during this difficult period, assuring that the equipment will be deployed effectively.
In a similar development, the Medical Director, Diete-koki Memorial hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Fetepigi and the Chief Medical Director, Bayelsa state Hospital Management Board, Dr. Doubara Donkumo applauded the Board for its continuous support to the health sector.
The Medical Director, Tobis Clinic & Consultants, Dr. Bonsome Bokolo who received 3 units of the ventilators also commended the Board for supporting and collaborating with the private sector of the health care system.
While handing over the ventilators at Tobis Clinic & Consultant, at the event, the Executive Secretary also commissioned the newly built ultra-modern Critical Care Centre at the hospital in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state
